Audience: Admitting

  • Medical Terminology/Terms need to be accurate even in the registration/admitting process.
  • Learn the basics of ICD-10-CM/PCS, the who, what, where, when and why

Audience: Payers/Finance

  • Conduct a business impact and assess the impact on future reimbursement
  • Identify, pursue and collaborate with providers who generate the highest volume of claims
  • Each organization needs to perform their own assessment or gap analysis even if governmental analysis states the impact will be low
  • Involve Decision Support staff early to assist with analysis and reporting

Audience: CDI

  • Focus on specific documentation improvement efforts that will directly impact ICD-10-CM/PCS code assignment.
  • Update physician query forms/templates NOW and make sure you have a tracking process for queries.

  • Change is good, good for healthcare
  • ICD-10-CM/PCS will help improve patient data which will help improve patient care
  • With ICD-10-PCS the classification is suited for and with the technology or today and in the future
  • The ICD-10-CM Disease index terminology is more is more specific and up to date

Audience: Physicians

  • Healthcare is driven by clinical data; the data comes from the codes; which come from the documentation in the medical record.
  • ICD-10-CM/PCS offers a great opportunity for improved clinical data which has a wide-range of impact and benefits including but not limited to clinical research, outcomes, reimbursement and quality of care.
  • ICD-10-CM is similar to ICD-9-CM but with greater expansion and specificity.

Audience: All

  • ICD-10-CM/PCS is important to our healthcare system as it will allow greater clinical data capture
